Gameplay Gone, Reviews Gone, Game Tips Gone

Nintendo is issuing notices to anything that matches their 'content ID' on YouTube, total crackdown on anything related to the big 'N'. I guess Mario needs more golden coins!

Nintendo has decided to get tough with those playing their games on Youtube, even tho they claim they are doing 'gaming reviews' or 'giving tips on how to past a level'.

Not really that big of deal, M$ already did the same a while ago, anyone making 'money on Youtube' was banned from having 'gameplay' videos with ads, and now Nintendo seems to be doing the same finally, if your 'content' is over a certain length, and you got ads on it, you can be sure to kiss it goodbye thanks to the big 'N' muscle.

I have mixed feelings about this because I've watched LPs of games where the commentary was why I enjoyed them and also caused me to try a game I wouldn't have played otherwise and by knowing what to do allowed me to enjoy it more, etc.

If these videos are uploaded without any adverts I don't think this should apply but if they are applying adverts I think revenue sharing would be better if the video qualifies under certain criteria (e.g. running commentary of a minimal standard).

Obviously though this is better than just blocking videos.

like with ms this has no effect on anyone uploading these lp videos for fun only those doing it for profit and only if an individual video is over a certain length.

Didn't Nintendo comment on this, saying that they will NOT take down any videos?
      But add ads to them?

Yes, but it is now THEIR ADS and they get all the dough, you as little man that took all the time to make the review get nothing.

In the end, there will just be less 'reviews' unless it is big sites like IGN or VG247, they can get away with it as lot of them host the video review directly, so viewers see normal webpage ads.

Alot of small sites play for their monthly hosting fees by uploading videos to youtube, the few bucks you get and it is not much these days from google adsense does help, sadly big 'N' wants their cake and to eat it also, without any sharing, except of course google themselves still gets richer by hosting the ads, they were keeping 40 to 60% of loot already from the littleman, plus if the littleman is in the states he is also now forced to declare on his annual income taxs the payments from google.

Considering Nintendo is in dead last, with 2 big consoles looming around the corner, this is a great way to further alienate those who are your supporting fan base.

Way to go Nintendo. Make yourself look worse.

I clicked this link, ready to get pissed off that they were removing anything with their copyright. If you're making ad money off a screen capture of playing through their games, well what do you expect. As long as they're not going after folks without ads...

As far as reviews go, if they only feature brief clips of a game to explain the points they're making, that sounds like fair use to me. But I don't know what youtube's actual policy is on this, and that's all that will really matter in the end.

it is fair use that is why the clips have to be over a certain length before nintendo interfere.
