Lots of useful info for scene developers.

flatz has decided to publish all the information he knows about the 'PS2 classics', which will surely be very useful for all PS3 scene devs out there.

Developer flatz has published tons of info about the 'PS2 Classics' and how they run on the PS3.

This will surely be useful for scene devs, and hopefully will allow us to properly play all of our PS2 backups on the PS3 (if someone else continues with his work, of course!).

The tutorial is pretty straight forward and it worked for me. I tested it tonight with a backup of Megaman X Collection, it worked flawlessly when I tested X1, X4, X6. Save function worked as well.

This is good news then, I may have to go digging for my one external HDD where I have a backup of the original .hack games, so I'll be able to play it without having to wait until I've the money to build my desktop lol.

Excellent work Flatz and all the rest involved :)

I'm having mixed results so far, Smaller games seem to work better for me.

Thank you for this. I'm confused, however. Can't we already play PS2 ISOs with MultiMan? How is this procedure different?

You can only play PS2 ISOs with MultiMan if you have a cobra and original discs if you've got a backwards compatible PS3.

All this requires is a current CFW.

Yeah most of the backups I have for PS2 are on Disc already so I to use imgburn to back them up again, I intend to test another game out just gotta find the time. Though my compatibility will probably be slightly better because it's an original Fat 60GB console CECHA01. Though this project is off to a good start none :).

Compatibility is looking really promising, so far I have had Time Splitters, Half Life, SSX 3 and Burnout Dominator working :)

Im on Cobra cfw 4.30 and can't even run PS2 pkg files. I mean the exisitng ps2 classics and using reactpsn with exdata and the rap files. They install but error ********, so I haven't had a chance to try my own iso's yet. I'm beginning to think the Cobra isn't really needed any more?? Hmmm, maybe I haven't read enough instructions

Unless youre using your Cobra for PSP, network loading or ISOs then no you dont need it.
Its pretty basic, just follow CaptainCPS-Xs tut at hax.
Im not going to keep any on there so I haven't worried about changing the content id.
Just encrypt an iso with Aldo's gui tool, ftp to the ps2 placeholder directory, test the game whilst another is encrypting.
      Rinse and repeat ;)

The game compatibility is really good! Id play them on here instead of PCSX2 if we could get it widescreen.. borders are just not acceptable to me :(

Right, thanks mate. Think I might put rogero on the PHAT and try some existing PS2 Classics using reactpsn, in other words activate existing ps2 classics PKG's rather then my own iso's.

      Hey, minix arrived ;)

Go the latest REX mate ;)
Reactpsn works better with it, can switch to DEX in half a second and still use network ps3 gaming.
Rogero doesnt have QA support either. And you can support a fellow Aussie :p

Good job with the minix! Check the other forum and hit me up if ya need any help ;)
Im about to purchase number 4 :p

So I just finished testing "Berserk" (Japanese) and the PKG file size was 4.1GB so it will not fit on a FAT32 drive to transfer. It booted up fine, however had some pixelation probelms in both the top right and left corners in the first fight scene (green and other colors). It seemed a lil slow in the fight scene (possible FPS drop) but i don't remember how it was back in the day either.

I would have tested more, but I can't read Japanese and I'm still trying to figure out why I have this game in the first place lol.

      1. Is the compatibility better than Cobra?

      2. Do BC PS3s fair better, or is this a software emu level playing field?

      3. Has anyone tried OpenPS2Loader?

4: Does this increase chances of PSPMinis getting hacked to play PSP games?

      1) Infinitely better for non bc consoles

      2) havent checked but most people ive seen dont have bc consoles and the compatibility is awesome.

      3) Not sure but ULE works so cant see why not.. was gonna try HDLoader if I can be bothered.

      4) I'd be interested to see the new PSP emu done if this is anything to go by. flatz is probably one of the only people left whos both smart and maybe interested enough to do it. Whether he does or not is another thing.
