Instead of the initial $1.05 billion awarded.

Apparently, Apple now is planning to ask for $3 billion in damages from Samsung, even though a jury recommended $1.05 billion last month.

As you may know, last month Apple was declared victorious in the 'patent trial of the century' against Samsung and the Korean giant was ordered to pay $1.05 billion in damages.

Now, however, it seems Apple wants A LOT more than that. According to "multiple legal sources" for 'The Korea Times', the company is planning to ask US Federal Judge Lucy Koh for $3 billion in damages from Samsung.

If Apple does ask for $3 billion, it will be the largest amount ever demanded for violation of technology patents.

We will know for sure this Friday, when a hearing between the two corporations take place and in which both parties are expected to ask Judge Koh to overturn portions of the jury's verdict.

If they really ask for that, let's hope the judge ask them first if they are still 'smoking crack'.

      This is not New information...

As stated due to the jury finding Willful Infringement, Apple was expected to request this tripling of damages as any good Lawyer who knows the law and court system would. In fact the Judge could have given them this even if they didnt request it. The point is to punish those who know they are breaking the law and do so anyways.

The fact is that courts always work out to you ask for the highest penalty or reward allowed by law, so that when the judge decides how much to give you he hopefully get close to this high amount that he will most definitely give less than. And then when you consider legal fees and taxes and such, again you really want this number as high as possible to ensure what you actually get out of it is worth it.

Its just common strategy like when trying to sell something (or opposite for buying).

Apple, **** you, I hope Samsung buries you in court. Sammy tech is cutting edge, and far less dumbded down, if it wasn't for Apple's fad tech they could not even compete. Apple tech is akin to the Wii. I'd like to see MS and Sammy team up to hammer them.
