Many of us love to make a bit of money from our hobbies, and there are so many ways in which you can do so nowadays, not least when it comes to gaming!

Top gamers are some of the most recognisable faces on the planet these days thanks to their social stardom, but there are also tons of other ways to make money from enjoying gaming too!

If you feel it’s time to step up and turn all those hours with a controller in hand into cash, then you’re in luck. Below you’ll find the top five ways to make money from gaming…

    Start A Podcast

There is all manner of gaming content out there and with the meteoric rise of podcasts in the last year or so, it’s the perfect time to start discussing your gaming!

There are already a number of fantastic games podcasts on the market, covering all manner of topics from action and adventure, to casino and even podcasts dedicated entirely to a specific game.

Many podcasts have become hugely lucrative, earning sponsors and advertisers which can be the first step to even making a living from it.

From there, many podcasts develop into live shows, and while that’s the pinnacle, they all start from relatively small titles, developing a loyal fan base and working your way up the charts.

The Rooster Teeth Podcast and Giant Bombcast have proven particularly popular down the years and are certainly a good place to start if you’re looking for inspiration.

    Enter Competitions

If you’re more of a casual gamer, there is a great opportunity to make money through your hobby through entering competitions. There are hundreds of tournaments available to play no matter what game you love, from the likes of FIFA to Fortnite and many casino comps, whether it be blackjack, poker and it’s many variants or any other casino game.

Plenty of players have become professional through playing online gaming competitions, but even if you fancy being in with a chance every now and again, there are still tons of opportunities.

The rise of online gaming tournaments, whether it be casino or video games often sees prize pots in the millions, meaning there’s plenty to play for. And you never know, you might just get lucky!

    Create A Channel

Similar to podcasting, you can also create a YouTube or Twitch.tv account and stream your gaming alongside offering commentary and advice.

It’s easier than ever before to stream your gaming and many gamers now upload their play and live stream to audiences that even exceed TV shows!

Like with podcasts, if your channel starts proving a success you can begin to monetise it, picking up sponsors, adverts and endorsing products.

It’s made superstars out of many, and those who have subscriber lists in the hundreds of thousands and even millions will also be offered a fee to appear at conventions and exhibitions, similar to what you find at the likes of Comic-Con.

Players such as Peediepie and El Rubius have millions upon millions of subscribers, and all you need is a camera, a game, the ability to stream and that little bit of charisma.

    Create Your Own Game

If you feel like you know gaming, or a particular genre of gaming inside out, why not give it a go yourself?

Of course, it is far from easy. Even the most basic app can be very difficult if you don’t know much about game development, but there’s nothing to stop you from learning.

There are plenty of online courses in game development, and even if you didn’t want to create the game yourself you could always build out the game’s story and look to sell the project to a gaming company.

A good place to start is with simple apps and programmes which can get you started. You can develop your skills and get a firmer grasp of exactly what it takes to create a playable game.

    Become A Coach

It’s not something many people consider, but just like sports coaching, you can indeed coach people to play video games and casino games.

That can come in different ways, from one-to-one coaching in return for payment, to online tutorials which players can either subscribe to or monetise through advertising.

A good way to start is by live streaming and highlighting your talents for a particular game first, building subscribers and fans before offering coaching packages.
