    Unlike most popular beliefs, gaming didn’t start in the 21st century. Archeologists discovered games such as the dice, balls and board games that the earlier generation used for entertainment and gambling. The only difference between then and now is the advancement of design and technology. Nowadays, games are just a click of a finger away. More games are being created while the older versions are upgraded to keep up with the ever demanding market, and there are the more and more platforms as Pomu.

    There are different categories of gamers in the world. These categories are based on various aspects such as the way one plays a game, the frequency and the types of games that they choose. Below are the four major categories to classify gamers;

    A social gamer’s main motivation of playing is to interact and connect with other users. The games are just but a means of communication between them and the gaming community. They only enjoy playing games that allow them to talk or chat with other users. These kind of gamers organize themselves into communities of gamers.

    A Social gamer’s approach to playing is open and casual to say the least. They are easy going and don’t fuss over wins or losses. They are hardly competitive in the games they partake. They don’t care to finish games, make schedules or even develop obsessions. When their interest is finished, they are gone. These kind of gamers are not the kind to follow up on release date or eager for game updates.

    This kind of gamer wants to win by any means necessary. They are keen on scheduling matches and they feel a sense of accomplishment when they are able to beat and outplay their opponents. Friendly matches don’t appear anywhere in their dictionary and they will never back down from a challenge.

    Most competitive gamers get their livelihood from it. Gaming is their 9 to 5. They play competitively, enter into matches and e-sports in an attempt to win the prize money. Serious gamers can go into proper research and training to make sure they are the best. They devise methods and steps to follow while playing kicking the fun out of the gaming.

    Casual gamers are the bulk of the gaming community. As the name suggests, they are easy going and don’t take gaming that seriously. They simply play for the fun of it and to pass time. Winning or losing is not important to them. Their choice of games are those that are easy and the plot is simple.

    Casual gamers are not consistent in their playing patterns. They may take a break from gaming for a length of time without the fear of being left out. They are not game focused nor are they interested on release dates. Due to this low level of commitment, they prefer monotonous games that are easy to remember.

    This kind of gamer breaths, dreams and eats gaming. They are totally obsessed and fully immersed into the games as if their lives depended on it. They are known to have little to no interaction with the outside world and they consider the friends they make online their true friends. When most people talk of serious gamers, this is exactly who they are referring to.

    Hardcore gamers can spend hours upon hours in front of their screen and most, for good reason, adorn spectacles. They are well versed with the trending games, models and release dates. They are fully dedicated and they will go the extra mile to pre-order games well before their release dates.

    So, based on the categories above, which type of gamer are you?
