    To add Miiverse and more...

According to IGN, current Wii U testing units still don't have Miiverse or the eShop, as those will be added with the system first update, once the console launches in a few weeks.

According to IGN, media sites aren't able to explain Wii U's features like Miiverse or the console's online experience because Nintendo hasn't added them yet.

That's right, the upcoming console will feature a Day One Update, which will add those online functionalities, plus the system eShop, Wii U Chat and TVii...

There you have it. The Wii U will launch on November 18 in North America and on Novermber 30 in Europe.

so now not only are games being sold incomplete and needing massive day 1 patches but the actual consoles too, ps3, vita, 3ds and now wii u, what happens if a buyer is an offline gamer? (ok, not so important for e-shop but miiverse has person to person messaging on the same console (like a post it note)).

slight difference really, the PS3/360/VITA all include the system/firmware update on the game, in order to play, so if you are a offline gamer you can update without needing an internet connection.

Wii games had updates on disk. So do 3ds games.

I am sure wiiU Games will have the firmware on disks.

I still dont like that you need a day 1 firmware update... But i guess those are the times we are in.

I mentioned it a few times in the other Wii U threads, that the 'system' is not complete, and will need updates.

Out of the box on Nov. 18th, it will just play games, nothing more, not even much of dashboard.

Those is Europe might get lucky and have their factory units at v1.1 which will have more of dashboard.

Day 1 will not be the last the needed firmware updates, before it matches the retail box and cute setup manual.

Think of like this, Week 1 update, Week 2 update, Week 3 update, hopefully by Xmas it will be more complete and functional so you can enjoy the system with your family & friends over the holidays, but no guarantee, I see it not happening until we are until the New Year, remember the (aka) 'Launch Window' is running up until end of March!

Finally, the problem with is those without any clue about 'Day 1 Update', or no 'net to access, as the first games
available will also NOT have Day 1 Update, since they were stamped onto HD-DVD discs also before the OS update.

So what is left, guess what 'big box stores' well pick up the pieces and offer their 'GeekSquad' services like at Best Boy, or their nice friendly helpful gaming staff at GameStop to update your system before your leave the store, maybe for a small fee! (hehe)

seems like nintendo have spent more time over selling the wii u creating a hype and forgot about the actual console.
